About
Kelleys.org is about places to visit in your own backyard. Sure, you can travel to Italy and have a wonderful time wandering the back streets, climbing the Spanish Steps and seeing at the Colosseum lit up at night. Or, maybe Paris is more your style, cruising on the Seine at night and watching the light show on the Eiffel Tower. Those are wonderful vacations everyone should try to do at least once in their lifetime but not everyone can afford the time or money for those types of vacations every year.
That’s where this site comes in. There are a lot of places to visit all over the country and most of them are unknown by people who don’t live near them. This community is provided so people can let other people know what’s interesting and unique about their hometowns. It’s about the world’s largest ball of twine in Darwin, Minnesota; the fish hatchery in Issaquah, Washington or Lanterman’s Mill in Youngstown, Ohio. It’s not necessarily about Disneyland, the Empire State Building or Cape Kennedy, those places everybody knows to visit. It’s about the more modest, but still interesting, places to visit around the country.
My goal is to get at least 100 unique, quirky or strange places to visit in every state!
You can help this community grow in three ways. First, let me know about the interesting places to visit near you. The oddities, curiosities and “tourist traps” you take for granted are gold for someone traveling through your neck of the woods. Second, browse states you’ve been to and see if anything you’ve visited is listed. If it is, grade it on a scale from one to five on how much you enjoyed it so other people can know whether or not it’s worth the trip. Maybe you even have a few comments of your own you can add to the description by replying to the post. Finally, tell your friends about it, especially the ones that live in a different state so they can share their own unique places to visit!
I truly hope you enjoy this site and find it useful. If the content is lacking (as it will be for a while) be sure to give me some suggestions! You don’t need to register to enjoy the site and although your email address is required to post a comment, it won’t be used for marketing, sold (or given) to third parties or otherwise abused.
Thanks,
Doug Kelley
